NORMA Group Sponsors Cooling System for Formula Student Electric Racing Cars

NORMA Group is supporting FaSTDa Racing, the student racing team at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, with a cooling system for their electric racing car. Development engineers and employees from NORMA Group’s prototype construction department supported the students in selecting components and fitting the line system. For the installation of the cooling system, NORMA Group made its workshop rooms available in the prototype construction.

“Innovation is part of NORMA Group’s DNA, which is why we are happy to support the student team in the ambitious development project,” says CEO Guido Grandi. “Our powerful and weight-reduced cooling systems are used in well-known electric series vehicles, from premium cars to compact vehicles and e-trucks. We are pleased that a tailor-made system in the electric racing car can demonstrate its capabilities.”

Members of the student racing team FaSTDa received support from NORMA Group employees during installation.

The cooling system of the e-racing car is several meters long and consists of smooth and corrugated plastic tubes, connectors and T-shaped hose connectors. Konstantin Kleefoot from Team FaSTDa says: “For the development of our electric racing car, we depend on support from the industry. We thank NORMA Group for supporting us with proven components and expertise.”

Stephan Mann, Director R&D Fluid at NORMA Group: “The right thermal management has a significant impact on the range of electric vehicles. Our cooling systems are designed to keep the battery and drive train at an optimal temperature. The exchange about the requirements of the FaSTDa team and the joint determination of the best solution was enriching for both sides”.

The student team FaSTDa Racing developed and constructed the fully electric vehicle for the 2023 season. From July it takes part in the races of the international motorsport competition Formula Student. Several hundred student teams compete against each other in this competition. The competition covers various aspects of automobile manufacturing from design and development to marketing and business management.
